Please do not consider Mr. Von Wettberg to be a selfless crusader working to protect the integrity of quaint Hamilton from out of state village destroying corporate profit seekers. Mr. Von Wettberg should be seen for what he is: someone trying to protect his very profitable tenement housing empire. In truth there is some irony in Mr. Von Wettberg’s opposition to this project. He is currently building student housing in an established residential neighborhood just outside the village of Morrisville despite vehement opposition from the surrounding community. It would seem to this observer that apparently what is good for the goose is not also good for the gander. It is very reassuring to know that hypocrisy is alive and doing quite well in the beautiful village of Hamilton, NY. Be aware! Mr. Von Wettberg cares nothing about the people or community of Hamilton unless there’s money to be made!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048136084556425825.post-36081844230653371752014-08-15T11:25:40.924-04:002014-08-15T11:25:40.924-04:00Yes, I agree the plans were hasty, and perhaps not...Yes, I agree the plans were hasty, and perhaps not the best suited for the community in regards to bringing more students to the center of town. However, housing for your professionals who work at the University is sorely needed. Landlords like Von Wettberg operate as slumlords charging outrageous rent for the spaces they provide and disregarding the car, upkeep, and quality of their spaces. It does no good for the economy, and quality of life in Hamilton when landlords are mistreating their tenants. All but their lawyer presented as reluctant speakers, and he substituted forced chumminess for necessary information. The developers themselves mumbled almost inaudibly, raising the likelihood that they have no idea how to relate to citizens asking perfectly reasonable, even basic questions about their plans. Under such circumstances, why would we trust their "potential" provisions for attention to the safety needs of our students? Also, I don't think I imagined the collective shudder when the modification of sealed-shut windows and non-transparent glass was offered by FP. Sounded like a proposal to house our students in a prison. Barbara Regenspanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962786254063347580noreply@blogger.com
